Capitol Square Events and Permits

The Division of Engineering and Building (DEB) is responsible for issuing permits for use of buildings and grounds at the Virginia Capitol Square.  Section 2.2-1144 of the Code of Virginia grants DEB the control and responsibility for property at the Seat of Government.

Use of Capitol Square Grounds

Groups are allowed to hold events in front of the Bell Tower on Capitol Square.  Any organization that is interested should read the rules regarding the use of Capitol Square and then submit an application.

Use of Old City Hall

The atrium of the Historic Old City Hall is available to groups for rent for evening receptions.  The building is located on Capitol Square.

Use of the Robert E. Lee Monument

Groups may request permission to use the grounds of the Monument.  The Monument is located away from the Capitol Square at the intersection of Monument Avenue and Allen Avenue.
